Daniele is a wine maker that does not speak much. Instead, his wines do speak for him. Good wines do not need many words and you cannot make good wines just with lots of nice words and beautiful sentences.

While I was trying the wines, I saw him sneaking looking at my expression and I noticed his small hidden smile…I think he understood I really like his wines. Welcome to Ricci family!

Ricci winery is located deep in Piemonte on the beautiful hills near Tortona. The typical soil of this area is calcareous/clay blue Marl. Same identical soil of Serralunga d’Alba, which is of course most renowned for its Barolo production. The vineyard root going deep in the soil gifting us with a stunning acidity and minerality making the wines of this area unforgettable.

Daniele is well known in Italy as one of the Timorasso top wine makers. Timorasso was once forgotten and now back in trend thanks also to the great interest of big superstar wine makers of Piemonte and the work of another Timorasso interpreter such as Walter Massa. Daniele peculiarities among the Timorasso makers are the long macerations, wise oxidation, and elevage in Amphora or local Chestnut and Acacia wood. He is a Rebel wine maker, but his wines are elegant and profound with a soul and character in it.

Other than Timorasso Daniele cultivates other local typical grapes varieties: Barbera, Croatina, Nebbiolo, Cortese, and finally a new vine of Sauvignon Blanc.

Why do I like Daniele’s wine?

When you open Ricci bottles yes, they speaks by themselves, are fabulous but I feel attached also to the story of his wines, his a great knowledge and Philosophy.

The first rule is Less contamination possible and adherence to nature. To follow this practice other than no intervention agriculture, no chemical he really had a dream: to make the wine in the vineyard. To do so he buried some big terracotta amphorae in the vineyard and the grapes when harvested do not leave the land but stay in it. Nothing moves. I actually just moved the bottles to Korea, but you can still close your eyes and feel immersed in Daniele estate.

Another amazing practice is the wise use of wood to age the wines. For his barrels made with wood from the surrounding forest (Chestnuts and Acacia) do not get under fire to be made. Fire is responsible for toasted notes but using just steam makes the barrels as neutral as possible using this material just to let the wine evolve and breath in the barrique. No oaky wines please!

Reserve and old vintages: to make wine you need to be patient and need to wait. Wait years until the wine becomes great. Daniele he has this characteristics and he would rather keep in his cellar very old reserve before releasing to make unforgettable wine experience fir his wine lovers.

Emotionality and fine wines. Try, sip, taste, believe.
