Terpin

지역: 이탈리아 Friuli, Italy

1년 총 생산량: 약 25.000

The winery Terpin gets its name from the surname of Franco. Franco is also known as “Francone” that in Italian stands for the nickname “Big Franco”. Franco Is a very tall, muscular, and well-nourished man. If you will meet him after experiencing his wines you will find some similarities between the style of his wine and his appearance and character. His wines are bold and massive, they have lots of everything: lots of taste, lots of power, lots of alcohol exactly like Franco. However, his wines like his personality are smooth and harmonious, warm, firm and a bit rough like his handshake.

Terpin wine history is quite long however only since the beginning of the 90s when Franco took over his family business, he changed the style of farming and vinification joining and becoming one among the legendary winemakers of Collio such as Josko Gravner, Stanko Radikon, Dario Princic each of them with a fabulous interpretation of this incredible terroir.

The area where Franco cultivates his grapes is known as Collio which also extend to Slovenia, once part of Italy, called in Slovenian language Brda. This area is very famous for wines with long maceration, intense minerality, acidity and peculiar aromas. This area has two main factors that influence the production of wines. The first is the soil know as Ponka. Ponka is a seabed stone friable that has a high level of alkaline and nutrient gifting wine with peculiar minerality and taste. The second is the microclimate. The area is just below the Apls but mitigated by the Mediterranean Adriatic Sea and its breeze creating a microclimate with strong temperature excursion.

Franco Philosophy is to minimize the intervention in the vinification to exalt the peculiarity of each vintage and not adding any chemicals neither in the vineyard nor in the cellar.

His wines have long maceration which enable to make fuller body and extract the aromas from the grape’s skins and years elevage only in Oak old barrels. Another factor is his patient aging the wines in bottles to contribute to exalt the complexity and depth of each cuvee.

I like Franco wines because they have one of the best interpretations of Collio terroir from the area of San Floriano.
