Rocco di Carpeneto

지역: 이탈리아 Piemonte, Italy

1년 총 생산량: 약 40.000

Paolo and Lidia were looking for a complete change of lifestyle after twenty years working in the financial sector in Milan. Their dream was to live in nature, own a vineyard and make wine the most natural way possible.

Paolo is kind, calm but talks a lot despite the fact that I like to listen to him; he seems like a person with great knowledge, and I enjoy making conversation with him about wines.

Lidia is always smiling and happy but less talkative compared to Paolo. She was quite successful in her previous life, but I must admit she is doing a great job also with this new life. Determined, precise and huge love for wines that is how I can describe her.

In 2008 they found their beloved vineyards in Piemonte far from their hometowns (Paolo was born near Garda Lake and Lidia is from Roma). The winery is located near Carpeneto a small village in Alto Monferrato hills, 270 mt above sea level, the nearest part of Piemonte to the sea and all the area has been since long time vocated to the viticulture. In this are the traditional grapes varieties are Dolcetto, Barbera and Cortese. The vineyards were planted between 1955 and 1986.

We Visited Lidia and Paolo winery and stayed in a beautiful Agritourism with vineyard view from the rooms. It was a nice and healing experience; we had such a relaxed time having their local produced farm products and spending almost 2 days with them walking in the vines and trying all their wines in the cellar including some riserva of 10 years that had a very incredible evolution in the bottles. I was shocked to try wines with SO2 less than 10mg per liter after 10 years and still so delicious and so in shape including their white Cortese. This confirmed to me once again that well made and healthy white grapes can last and evolve as red grapes.

Lidia and Paolo and radical natural wine makers but very precise in what they do. They run clockwork their estate, 100% natural and eco sustainable with renewable energies.

Their approach in winemaking is quite interesting. They vinify the wines basically the same way based on the respect of traditional practices, as well as of micro-terroir and microclimate conditions diversity. All wines have extended maceration, in steel tanks, terracotta amphorae, wooden casks and concrete tanks, soft pressing and no temperature control. The different cuvee labels are just different vines parcel. This way their mission is to exalt the Cru and let speak the soil that makes the difference in each line.

I love their wines… Clean, tasty, never boring, safe! A real grape juice taste that both Italian and Korean will like.
